Back in the early ‘80s (and before that, I suppose), the place to shop for fabric in Portland, as far as my mom and aunt were concerned, was Jantzen. Some of my favorite childhood memories come from trips we took there in search of knit fabrics for a new outfit. When my aunt downsized her fabric stash last year, I was thrilled to receive this “doggie” knit—I’m almost positive it came from Jantzen and it probably was the leftovers from something she made for my brother or one of my cousins.
This piece of fabric was top on my list of things to use during Spring Kid’s Clothes Week, because, as evidenced by the photos, FB’s toddler belly is quickly outgrowing the amount of fabric I had.
I used my go-to t-shirt pattern: Kwik Sew 3863 , size 2T. In my experience it runs small, and I’m wishing I’d gone with a 3T since FB is long-waisted. The finished result is already almost too small around.
Even though he won’t be able to wear this for long, I’m glad I was able to use this fabric, and it was nice to kick off KCW with an easy sew! (NOTE: jewel sticker on forehead is completely optional).
